And welcome to Gotlandsmusiken in its new suit!
Gotlandsmusiken has in various forms been around since the time of national mobilization, i.e. since 1838. As an institution, we have over the years experienced a series of sweeping changes that fundamentally changed what we do, how we do, and for whom we do it.
Due to our island location, we have a very few changes among the musicians, where some have been employed 40 years or more. It may then be easy to fall into a steady trot of habits – but instead we want to work tirelessly to relate to and better serve our ever-changing community.
Gotlandsmusiken is today one of Sweden’s 22 regional music institutions receiving both state and regional activity grants. Our region is Gotland and the Gotland inhabitants thus our primary target: different age groups, geographic and socio-economic positions, natives and newcomers, audience and music practitioners: our mission covers all!
Once upon a time, the armed forces constituted our largest customer. When the regiments disappeared in the early 2000’s, we developed instead our Concert Series, which include music and artists that will please different target groups – but always with quality as our main objective. During my 4,5 years here as director, a number of changes have been made. We have e.g. stopped performing as a marching band and returned our uniforms, we have tried to become more eclectic in our choice of music, and we have focused even more on our activities for and with children and young people. And now it is time to change our costume!
We have, together with our communications agency Kusinerna worked to renew and refresh our brand, e.g. our logo, which has been in use since the 1970s.
For the season 2016/17, we started by changing the format and design of the program books and posters, changes that were positively received by many.
Now, at the beginning of 2017, we add the final touches to our new logo, which has been developed together with both the Board and the staff. The new logo should:
• Expose the name Gotlandsmusiken
• Be modern without being too trendy – neither too cocky or wimpy
• Associate to audio and music symbols avoiding the old “note” and instruments stereotypes
• Create a theatrical form, a concert feeling, that something is happening here
We think that we, with the assistance of Kusinerna, have succeeded in our intentions!
We seize also the opportunity to introduce our new website, which you, dear reader, apparently have already found! The new website should be attractive, accessible, non-static, informative, bilingual and informal – a website you can happily visit again and again!
Do you have any feedback, comments and ideas on the new website? Or about anything else Gotlandsmusiken do? Then, hope to hear from you in the Suggestion box located under ”Contact” in the menu above!
I wish you a nice homepage experience!
